Local Heroes at Home Project Completed

ROME, N.Y., May 12, 2009 – Rebuilding Together Mohawk Valley, in conjunction with volunteers from Sears and Kmart stores, recently completed several renovations to the Rome home of Robert Ross, a disabled Army veteran.

The project was part of Heroes at Home, a program that provides support to military service people, veterans and their families through joint efforts with various nonprofit organizations.

Several significant repairs were made to the home of Ross, who suffers from emphysema. Renovations included installation of a new kitchen floor, new windows, and shower stall. A handicapped-accessible ramp was also built.

Efforts continued this week, when Fred F. Collis & Sons, Inc. provided the family with a complete duct cleaning. Technician Jason Hertline completed the nine-hour project using an Abatement Technologies HEPA whole-house duct-cleaning machine. The machine has a 99.97 percent capture of contaminants, which Cathy Ross, wife of Robert, hopes will make a difference for her husband.

“Cleaning the duct work is an important improvement to our home,” Cathy said. “It should make breathing a whole lot easier for Robert.”

Paul Collis, owner of Fred F. Collis & Sons, Inc., said that his company enjoys giving back to the community and was glad to help on the Heroes at Home project.

“I think the family was very happy and impressed with what Jason did for them,” said Collis. “Providing this service to the Ross family will help their system run more efficiently, and Mr. Ross’s breathing should also be improved.”

Local company featured in national HVAC/R newsletter

YORKVILLE, N.Y., July 30, 2009 – Fred F. Collis & Sons was recently featured as July’s Dealer Spotlight in Beyond Repair, a national HVAC/R newsletter distributed by the Carrier® Replacement Components Division. Beyond Repair is additionally inserted into The ACHR News, a monthly news magazine geared toward heating, cooling, and refrigeration professionals, with a circulation rate of 112,787.

Being selected for the Dealer Spotlight came as a result of the company’s involvement this spring with Rebuilding Together Mohawk Valley’s Heroes at Home project. Collis, in conjunction with the organization, community participants, and volunteers from Sears and Kmart stores, took part in the completion of several renovations to the Rome home of Robert Ross, a disabled Army veteran suffering from emphysema.

Fred F. Collis & Sons, Inc. provided the family with a complete duct cleaning free of charge. Such a cleaning typically costs around $600. Owner Paul Collis said that his company enjoys giving back to the community and was glad to help on the Heroes at Home project.

“I think the family was very happy and impressed with what our technician did for them,” said Collis. “Providing this service to the Ross family will help their system run more efficiently, and Mr. Ross’s breathing should also be improved.”

He added that helping the community is one way he works to keep the business firmly based on the foundation built by his grandfather, Fred Collis, more than 70 years ago. “My grandfather always taught us that caring for our families and our communities was the most important thing we could do,” he said.
