The fall is here, and winter is knocking on our door (in fact, snow has already arrived!) —is your heating system ready? Here are a few signs to look for that will indicate it is time to get your furnace, boiler, or heat pump some much needed routine maintenance to ensure it is operating as efficiently as possible.
House is cold with the heat “on”
Have you been tapping your finger on your thermostat reading thinking “there’s no way that’s correct… it’s freezing in here!”? Bring in a heating technician from Fred F. Collis & Sons, and we can diagnose and fix any issues with your furnace.
Furnace is constantly “on”
If your home is relatively comfortable, but your furnace has been endlessly pushing warm air out of your vents, you may be paying for it on your heating bills at the end of the month. A furnace that is constantly on will wear down much faster than a furnace that is correctly sized for your heating load.
Loud noises from your furnace
Sometimes a furnace will send you some not-so-subtle signs that it needs a little attention. Sounds can include loud bangs, whirring, clanks, and low rumbles that can indicate there is something seriously wrong with your furnace, requiring a trained HVAC professional.
Heating bills are high or frequently ordering oil delivery
Take a look at your heating costs. If they are much higher than last year or you find you are calling to order more oil faster than you anticipated, make sure your heating equipment isn’t to blame!
